EXJWS4HAITI
January 16, 2010
The brain-child of a group of members on JWR, EXJWS4HAITI was an idea to mobilize ex-JWs to help support Haiti Earthquake survivors. In less than 24-hours that idea became a reality with the launch of the website a YouTube video, Twitter account and Facebook page. Within less than 24 hours, approximately $1000 was raised and the amount continues to grow. The goal is to raise $10,000 for relief efforts in Haiti, with all donations going directly to The Red Cross, Doctors Without Borders, Care and Save the Children. EXJWS4HAITI does not handle any money at all, but provides information and acts as a portal directly to the aid organization websites. Please join us in donating to the people of Haiti!

Be Online at JWR on April 9th
April 5, 2009
April 9th marks the Jehovah's Witnesses annual celebration of the memorial of Jesus death. While many of our members are compelled to attend to keep up appearances there are many who will be playing hooky for the first time, and still others who are marking decades of absence. We will be opening up a special chat thread on the JWR Forum on April 9th, beginning at 8:00 AM (GMT). We encourage anyone who is feeling lonely, isolated, or who would just enjoy some company to join us on the forum for a full marathon day of fun. We're trying to set a new record to see how many people we can bring together at one time. See you there!
Happy Anniversary
November 9, 2008
Today is the 4 month anniversary of JWR! In a way, it seems as though it has been a much longer time. Since JWR launched we have attracted an amazing group of people and to be honest it feels as though we have known each other for a very long time. Perhaps it's because we share common history and experiences. Talking with each other feels like we're talking with old friends; no explanations required, we just get it. Regardless of what we currently believe, we are able to come together as a group of supportive peers and friends to make sense of what we've been through, who we are and where we're going. As a member of this community I feel privileged to know you all!

Post of the Week
November 9, 2008
This edition of Post of the Week was chosen by Eyes Open, who's been a JWR member since the very first days of the site.
Explaining his selection, Eyes Open said: "Here's my choice post of the week, in honour of the historic US election. At a time when many voted on the basis of a candidate's ethnicity or how a candidate measures up to their idea of a true follower of their religion, with such being admitted or even boasted, it is striking to read a little of what the founders actually intended and believed (or, rather, didn't). God bless Rifter, and God bless America. ;)"
Post Excerpt, "This country was founded by men of the Enlightenment movement. Many of which were Deists. While advocates of religious freedom, they were absolutely opposed to basing the principles of this nation on any religion, especially the Christian one...
This country was very much founded on secular principles, free from the influence of all religion, while allowing individuals to chose for themselves their deity, as along as they did not attempt to mix their private beliefs with government and law. It wasn't until much later that powerful and influential believers began meddling with the separation of church and state and soiling our rightly neutral institutions with deities and superstition." Rifter
Honorable mention:
Since it's difficult to choose just one post we've included an honorable mention, explaining his choice Eyes Open said, "Realizing that absolutely nobody from the general public would ask such an irrelevant question helps one realize just how irrelevant the Watchtower Bible & Tract Society really is. Great answer Borgia!"
Excerpt: "Who really is the faith and discreet slave?" Borgia

Community Forum's One Month Anniversary
September 9, 2008
It's hard to believe that it has only been a month since JWR was launched. In that time we have grown to nearly 180 members with thousands of visits! I would never have thought that we would have grown to become such a wonderful community in such a short time. I feel privileged to be able to get to know you and although many of us are separated by great distances, it seems only a trivial matter in our budding friendships.
I wanted to thank everyone for their involvement and support so far. JWR wouldn't be what it is without each and every individual. Our experiences and perspectives, although different, come together for a common and good purpose. From our volunteer moderators, the crew who migrated from JWD, to our newest members who have found us by searching on Google, thank you to all!
JWR Blog Launched!
September 9, 2008
This week we officially launched the new JWR Blog! We would like to invite and encourage our JWR members to contribute their thoughts, essays and articles. While article content should remain on-topic (relating to religion or the WTS), we encourage different views and perspectives; short or long articles; serious, inspiring or comic...
The Blog is an excellent way to keep JWR content current and also provide an additional resources for newly exiting JW members who may be intimidated or fearful of a forum environment. Let's all contribute to this resource in pursuit of our goal: promoting positive healing and recovery!
JWR members who would like to write or submit content for the blog can do so in two ways:
1. Request an Author account on the blog - this way you can post yourself.
2. Submit article to JWR team (admin/mods) - and we can post it for you.
JWR Post of the Week
September 9, 2008
This week's "Post of the Week" was selected by Hobbit_Lore. He said, "This post really caught my attention. The topic is one I had never even really considered before and I cannot even fathom the issues involved. To see the love and support of a mother in this case, then compare it with the parallel of leaving the Watchtower is touching for me."
Prepared to Lose Everything, by carpe noctum
"my youngest kid goes back to school today.....
he is an FtM transgender.... female to male
he is going back to school fully identifying
and representing as male...
on one of the support sites we have been using
one of the MtF's had written this for her signature
"if you are not prepared to sacrifice everything.
if you are not prepared to lose everything and everyone
that is important in your life, if you can do ANYTHING
but this and still get by, DO THAT, instead of transitioning"
the parallel to leaving the b0rg is striking......"
Out of the Cocoon
September 9, 2008
Some of you may be familiar with the book called Out of the Cocoon, written by a former JW named Brenda Lee. What you may not know is that she provides free cult education through seminars in the Colorado area. The seminars are called, Understanding Cults: What You Need to Know to Protect Your Family, and were part of the curriculum at the Colorado Free University for 6 months. She is also a JWR supporter, so stay tuned to hear from her, perhaps on the JWR Blog in the coming months.
