2010 Circuit Ass. Details?

Postby Rooklyn789 » Mon Mar 08, 2010 11:19 pm

Do you know if the CA specifically mentioned not talking to DF'd people? My mom and I were well on way toward mending the year-long gap in our relationship. (I was df'd a year ago) She suddenly calls me last month and tells to not contact her again. No explanation. Nothing....

Any ideas? Was there some sort of ground breaking new info? Did they use more-than-the-usual aggressive scare tactics?

Honestly, I'm very confused and a little hurt, and an explanation would be really nice.

It's been the case for many years now that witnesses, even family members should avoid contact as much as possable with someone disfellowshipped. I haven't been to a C A for years, but you know every now and again the subject will come up and the point is again rammed home to witnesses.
I am sure your mum still loves you a lot but unfortunately she also loves the org. And at this time they have won. Try not to give up hope, thousands leave the WT every year and with any luck your mum will be one of them, and you can get back to having a normal relationship again.

I wouldn't be surprised. But it's definitely not unusual for Witnesses to make a concious review of their lives and what needs changing according to the doctrine after an assembly, even if the topic wasn't mentioned directly. My Dad would feel so spiritual after the assemblies that he wouldn't listen to the 'worldly' radio on the way back home and no 'worldly' entertainment or media like TV or music was allowed on for the rest of the evening. Apparently we were just meant to bask in the glow of bumped-up spirituality that we got from just being there. :?
We haven't had our assembly yet, but if I go (and can stand to listen to the whole thing), I'll be sure to say what was included.

My Dad's brother isn't a Witnesses any more, he got disfellowshiped. But he and my Dad are really close and would sometimes hang out. Clearly my Dad was very torn and guilty about this though, because any meeting that mentioned association with disfellowshiped ones and he would cut all non-important communication off again.

Nah, I don't think there was any 'new light' about this, but I'm thinking that once in a while they tighten the screws on this subject when word gets out that perhaps the average witness is slipping a little in their association with DF'd family members.

This is probably a more accurate assessment. When the WT mag focuses on this subject, the followers obey, just like with any other topic (like internet involvement, game playing, worldly-people contact, etc.), and then after a while people slip again and the WT brings them back into line with a new article or talk. It's just the way it goes, unfortunately, and those that are afraid they themselves will get DF'd for disobeying, do exactly what your mother did. So sorry.

Do you remember a Circuit Assembly NOT telling people to shun their dfed relatives?

Yes. I know exactly what you all mean. Partly I want an excuse for her...

I was just curious about the content, honestly. With all the "earthquakes and tribulations" I thought it was entirely plausible that they were predicting The End more aggressively....than usual....grrr.

And there's your answer, brothers and sisters!

(The only thing I know of for sure that was mentioned was the importance of getting faders to come back to assemblies. I know that because I had to hear about it for a couple weeks after.)

Yeah... Thing is, they're always predicting the end more aggressively. I don't think they could be promoting it any more than usual unless they told everyone it was definitely next Tuesday! Every single assembly and it's "The End is so close now brothers!" "We're right on the very precipice!" "Any day now..." "Make sure you're doing blablabla, make sure you're not doing blablabla"

In the 10 years I've been DFed, the coolest times in my relationship with my parents have been after Circuit Assemblies and District Conventions. Things stay cool for a month at most and then go back to normal. There's been less coldness since my daughter was born too; imagine that?
