Why is the site search terrible?

Postby RedMax » Wed Jan 13, 2010 6:17 pm

The Search Box..
It's always been a bit of an issue with me, but I've ignored it for the most part by cultivating "long suffering" ;)

But now it's gone too far!

I wanted to perform a simple search to see if anybody has talked about this little movie, In dunno if anybody has heard of it?
Information
The following words in your search query were ignored because they are too common words: avatar.
You must specify at least one word to search for. Each word must consist of at least 3 characters and must not contain more than 20 characters excluding wildcards.

Or if I do 2 words like: Movie Avatar
it does this ignored: avatar

it does this FAR too often, saying a word I use is too common! Ok, but show me the result anyway! What I have to use Google to search the forums? Even if I do this, I won't find the Members only areas.

Alright well I got that off my chest.
The important thing is not to stop questioning.

Not only is the universe stranger than we imagine, it is stranger than we can imagine.

I like how another site I go to does their search.

Let me see if I can link to the page (because I've encountered the same problems)

Searching should be improved now. It will no longer exclude common words.

I also added a link to Advanced Search in the menu bar, for more specific queries.

Thanks this is great. I often am trying to look up information in older postings, so this is of great assistance!
